Been wanting to go out the Koh Lipe for sometime now, and finally had the opportunity to cross over to the Maldives of Thailand earlier this month and is now looking forward to go back again maybe later this year.
Koh Lipe is about a 90 minutes speed boat ride from Pak Bera Pier in Satun or you can take a boat from Langkawi (only operating from Nov to Apr). Koh Lipe is a very small island, measuring just 1km top to bottom and 2km left to right but is loaded with hotels. From budget hotels to premium boutiques, visitors to the island will be spoil for choice.
We chose Akira Lipe Beach Resort, a beach fronting 4-star resort at Pattaya Beach as it is quieter beach (boats arriving now are parked at Sunrise Beach starting in May) and is only a few minutes walk from the entrance of the famed Koh Lipe Walking Street. The resort is also very green and exclusive.
We took the 930am ferry across from Pak Bara Pier in Satun and arriving into Koh Lipe about 11-ish and was immediately met by the friendly Akira Lipe Beach Resort staff who helped us with our luggage. The loaded our luggage onto their sidecar and we are led to a waiting tuk tuk that bring us (and few other guests) back to the hotel.
The check in was swift and easy and even though we were there early, it was not an issue getting us into our rooms. We got ourselves the oversized 52 sqm Deluxe Pool Access Rooms and it was lovely.
However before heading to our room, we decided to grab some early lunch (we were a little afraid to eat before the boat ride as we were told the sea was a little choppy that day) at the Akira Bistro. Simple Pad Krapao Talay with Fried Eggs over rice before we retire to our rooms. Our first Thai Meal of the day and it was really satisfying.
Akira Lipe Beach Resort has five types of rooms to choose from – the villas, deluxe pool access and deluxe balcony, as well as the superior pool access and superior garden view.
The spacious deluxe room comes with a small stocked mini-bar, a small work desk, comfortable sofa seating with coffee table, and an extra-large king size bed (or twin bed if you choose). The bed is so comfortable – slept so well when I was there and you wake up so fresh.
An LED TV which I never got the chance to watch sits at the corner of the room and the full-length glass door slides open for you to access directly the nice lap pool. There is a nice lounge chair at the patio too for you to chill.
Complimentary WIFI is available throughout the resort and is speed is good.
The bathroom too, is huge, with separated shower stall as well as an over-sized bathtub. The cool thing about the bathroom is the the vanity mirror can slide open to the room, making the bathroom even more spacious and airy.
Akira Lipe Beach Resort has three swimming pools – one each at the Deluxe Room Block and Superior Room Block as well as another infinity pool at beach side.
There is one dining outlet – an all day dining where our daily buffet are served and a pool bar that serves up drinks and light snacks.
We had most of our meals at the hotel and I would say its pure compliments for all the food that we had. Breakfast comes with a good selection of Thai and International fares, very tasty and delicious, with a variety of juices.
Lunch (we only had during our arrival) was good and affordable. For dinner, we were booked right on the beach, where we can enjoy the Andaman Sea as the sun sets behind the island. We had two sumptuous dinner and I would say, we ate till we cant walk as the food were so good we kept on eating.
For those travelling with children, Akira Lipe Beach Resort has a children play-center at the end of the Superior Room Block as well as a fitness center and some meeting facilities.
There are kayaks and paddle boards at the resort that guests can utilize but the day we got there it was raining a little so we just kind of relax in our room. The second day we went exploring the island, strolled the whole of sunrise beach and also walked the Koh Lipe Walking Street and didn’t have enough time to take the kayak or paddle board out.
I would strongly recommend Akira Lipe Beach Resort for couples or family visiting Koh Lipe who wants a little luxury but not to spend too much. The hotel is new and clean, very spacious and you get a good value for your buck spent here. Food are wonderful and service is just above the rest.
