Dannok is the popular border town in the Province of Sadao especially among Malaysian and Chinese tourist due to its entertainment outlets, delicious food and spa centers. Recently I had a chance to stop by for a night stay in this town and enjoy one of the best hotel in town – the Grand Oliver Hotel by VHM Hotels.
The Grand Oliver Hotel is one of the tallest if not the tallest building in town and apart of nice, clean hotel rooms, it also house one of the grandest spa center in town, a three-storey Oliver Spa and a large convention center popular for events and weddings.
I checked into its 18-storey hotel recently – taking up their entry-level Deluxe King Room which cost only 1,100 baht per night inclusive of breakfast for two. The check-in is quick and they will require a 500 baht deposit for each room you take.
My room is 35 sqm in size and the design is modern Thai inspired. Room is bright and clean and offers a nice comfortable firm bed with two single-seater sofa with coffee table, a work area, refrigerator and a HDTV with a good selection of channels.
The bathroom has a separated rain-shower and is spacious with full amenities. Slight concern I have for the bathroom is their smooth floor tiles which I felt if not too careful, one might slip and fall while showering.
Password-free highspeed WIFI is offered throughout the hotel and the connection is fast and stable.
Breakfast is offered at the Olive Restaurant at the 1st floor and offers a wide range of Asian dishes such as congee, fried noodles, rice and curries as well as the usual Western breakfast item such as sausages, hams and eggs. There is also a section for fresh tropical fruits as well as some breads for toasts.
Parking is ample for this hotel and once parked, you can travel the Dannok town with their complimentary shuttle service (you will need to call the hotel for pickup after you are done).
The hotel house the largest luxury spa center in town – the Oliver Spa which opened end of last year. I didn’t have the opportunity to see everything they have to offer in there (entrance is 500 baht per person) but what I saw was enough to impress me. They have the changing room with a large bath with jacuzzi, steam room and sauna on the first floor, and was told the higher floors have a entertainment center, fitness center and also massage services. Maybe the next time I am in town, I will visit the spa center again.
Overall I would say Grand Oliver Hotel offers value for your money, for only 1100 baht you get a very comfortable and clean room, with ample parking facilities and complimentary shuttle service anywhere in Dannok town. Breakfast is good and staff are friendly and speaks good Malay and Chinese.
