Located along the southern coastline of the Pearl of Orient, lies a lovely gem of a hotel called Lexis Suites Penang. A 5-star resort, this 222 all suite resort is the only hotel on the island that offers all its guest a private pool and a steam room in the comfort of their own suite. A 30 minutes drive from the hotel will take you right into the heart of the UNESCO Heritage Georgetown.
Lexis Suites Penang has two different room categories – Executive Pool Suite and the Premium Pool Suite with the latter having full sea-view.
We had the opportunity to spend two nights at the resort’s 89 sqm Premium Pool Corner Suite and it was amazing.
Firstly you will notice when arriving at the hotel is that parking is ample and convenient. Secondly, you will surely notice the friendliness of the staff ~ everyone you meet in the hotel will greet you with a smile ~ from front office to security to restaurant crew.
Thirdly as you walk into the suite, you will notice how spacious the suite is (bigger than most apartment in town) and how it is divided into four sections – the entrance and mini-bar, the bedroom, the bathroom and the balcony which houses your personal private pool and private steam room.
We had the corner room which I believe gave us a slightly larger entrance area and a few step-in comes the mini-bar and bar-top for coffee and tea making facilities. The minibar comes loaded with drinks and chocolates and is all inclusive in your room bill, which is nice – just eat and drink what you want without having to worry about the hefty bill during checkout.
The bedroom is comfortable for four – with two super comfortable king size beds (with a lot of throw pillows – my favorite), with a lounge chair and a nice working desk. The large LED TV is built-into a glass enclosure on the dividing panel between the bedroom and bathroom and fits nicely in the room. Lighting in the room is bright with the floor to ceiling windows and the cheerful colors of the room help to give it a fresh look.
The bathroom is over-sized, with a large closet (where you will find bathrobes), large twin-basin vanity, a rain shower, a lovely free-standing bathtub and a separate toilet stall. The bathroom is so big you can probably do a cat-walk show in it 🙂
The highlight of the room at Lexis Suites Penang of course is your private pool and steam room located in the balcony of every suite in the resort and they are overlooking the beautiful Teluk Kumbar bay where on a nice day you will get one of the loveliest sunset in Penang.
The Premium Pool Suite is so lovely that one would probably not want to leave but the hotel also does have a facility floor on Level 8 where one can find a large swimming pool, a karaoke room, fitness center, game room, children’s playroom and also a lovely spa. The well equipped facility floor is well taken care of by a group of young energetic guys that will make sure you have a good time there.
There are a few dining outlets in the hotel – namely Umi Japanese Restaurant, Roselle Restaurant, Juice Bar by the Pool, Sky Terrace and Sky Lite Bar.
We had a Japanese dinner at Umi Japanese and I would highly recommend it. We had their free-flow shabu steamboat package plus an order of tori-katsu don and it was delicious and affordable. The restaurant staff is also super friendly and accommodating and that was the reason we actually ate there instead of going out.
Breakfast is served at the Roselle Restaurant which is also the hotel’s all-day dining outlet. The breakfast spread is good – a few hot station for eggs, roti canai and also a noodle station. They also have a Japanese section to go with a good varieties of western and local items.
Evenings are best spent at the Sky Terrace or Sky Lite Bar on the 25th floor where you can enjoy a good sunset over Teluk Kumbar while having a drink with friends.
Two days surely pass really quickly as the stay is comfortable and enjoyable at the Lexis Suites Penang. Although some people say there is nothing much to do around the hotel, but then for me, when you have a hotel this nice, you don’t really need things around it to make it fun. However, since we had foreign guest with me then, we did a visit to a few places of attractions in Penang.
In review, I would say Lexis Suites Penang does live up to its 5-star rating, even though the lobby and corridor might not but definitely is 5-star once you stepped into your suite. Room rates starts from about RM 499 but taking it into consideration that the room sleeps 4, it is rather an affordable stay, so do consider it your place to stay especially if you’re here with your family.
