Songkhla City is the administrative capital of the Southern Thai Province of Songkhla. Located just across the border from Malaysia, it is a popular destination for many Malaysian and Singaporean tourists. Some of the major attractions of Songkhla includes their iconic Mermaid Statue at Samila Beach, their well preserved Old Town Songkhla and the majestic TangKuan Hills.
I was in Songkhla recently and decided to check out the 3-star rated Viva Hotel located right in the heart of the city. The hotel is easy to find and the location is very good as it is like less than a 5-minute drive from all the main attractions of the city.
From the outside the building looks a little dated but you will notice it is very well maintained as you stepped into the lobby. With marble floor, and duo volume ceiling, the lobby is actually rather impressive for a hotel of its rating. The staff were friendly and check in was swift. There are secured parking at the back of the building so you don’t really have to worry about street-side parking.
I took up their most basic room – the standard single room as I was travelling alone and it has all the basic need including a mini bar which nowadays many 3-star hotels are no longer having. The 24 sqm room is clean with very cold air-conditioning system and overlooks to the sea (although I was on the lower floor that I could not see anything). The room has good natural lighting which I usually like for my room.
The queen size bed is comfortable although slightly hard but it does give a comfortable night stay. There is a working desk or vanity and a nice size mirror, especially good for the ladies who might want to get their make up done.
Bathroom is simple, not too big with a separated shower stall to keep the toilet from getting all wet each time someone takes a shower.
The hotel has a restaurant attached where you get your breakfast at and during lunch and dinner, it does serve ala-carte menu.
Breakfast is alright, not too extensive but does have some good mixutre of western and local items and it is pretty tasty.
Viva Hotel does have some meeting and banquet spaces and is one of the few in the city that does cater to the MICE needs. You also find quite a number of O&G personnel that stays at this hotel as it is one of the better business hotel in town.
I would recommend this hotel for business stay or if you are looking for a simple and clean place for a night stay in the city.
